[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will expand support for school trip expenses for students from basic livelihood security households (education benefits, below 50% of median income) by up to 100% compared to before.
The Office of Education announced on the 13th that, on a temporary basis this year, the support for school trip expenses will be expanded to cover the amount parents are responsible for.
This measure takes into account the increased costs due to inflation, which have become burdensome for low-income students and their parents.
Accordingly, the support amounts have been adjusted to 260,000 KRW from 130,000 KRW for elementary students, 330,000 KRW from 180,000 KRW for middle school students, and 600,000 KRW from 300,000 KRW for high school students.
The Office of Education will also apply this retroactively to eligible recipients in the first half of the year.
To receive support for school trip expenses, students from households eligible for education benefits should apply to the education support office according to the guidance of the relevant education support office at the school that planned the 2022 school trip.
Lee Hyun-sook, Director of the Converged Education Policy Division at the Office of Education, said, "This support for school trip expenses aims to provide better educational welfare to economically disadvantaged families," adding, "We will continue to do our best to ensure that low-income students do not face difficulties participating in educational activities."
