[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, expressed his gratitude on the 13th to various sectors for helping marginalized neighbors have a secure Chuseok holiday.

At the start of work immediately after the Chuseok holiday, Mayor Lee said, “During the process of visiting various livelihood sites during the Chuseok holiday period, I received many greetings that thanks to the help of neighbors, people were able to spend the Chuseok holiday without loneliness and with reassurance,” adding, “I extend my thanks and respect to all members of Seongbuk-gu who rolled up their sleeves and practiced sharing for those in need.”

Since August, Seongbuk-gu has received warm gestures from individuals, organizations, companies, and religious institutions from all walks of life to help marginalized neighbors enjoy a happy holiday.

Every year before the holiday, Godeok General Construction (Chairman Na Gi-seon), which donates money, contributed 10 million won again this year. The Korea Specialty Construction Association (Chairman Yoo Dae-woon) also donated 10 million won to local women’s shelters and single mother protection facilities. Shinhan Bank (President Jin Ok-dong) donated 10 million won as well. Wondoor Apparel, an outdoor sportswear specialist company located in Wolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu, added warmth by donating 2,000 kg of rice and 100 boxes of ramen (worth a total of 8.4 million won), and Homeplus Wolgok branch donated 1,000 kg of rice (worth 3 million won).

Donations from religious institutions also continued. Heungcheonsa Temple (Chief Monk Gakmil) and Bongguksa Temple (Chief Monk Hyeongeun) each donated 10 million won. Jeonggaksa Temple (Chief Monk Jeongmok) donated 5 million won. Yoido Full Gospel Seongbuk Church (Chairman Pastor Jeong Jaemyung) supported marginalized neighbors’ happy Chuseok by donating 1,000 kg of rice (worth 3 million won).

In addition, many donations from individuals and organizations continued at each neighborhood community center, cheering for neighbors in need to have a happy and warm Chuseok holiday. Seongbuk-gu ensured that donations and donated goods from all sectors were delivered quickly and accurately to those in need.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “Although this Chuseok holiday was tough for everyone due to the aftermath of COVID-19 and domestic and international economic downturns, many people extended support and warm sharing hands for neighbors in greater need, and this continues even now,” adding, “We will honor the intentions of those who practiced sharing for marginalized neighbors and focus administrative efforts to further activate the culture of sharing.”

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, is visiting various livelihood sites and listening to the voices of residents.

First, from August 29 to September 6, she toured 13 neighborhoods, engaging in direct communication with residents about local issues.

During the 9 days, a total of 131 suggestions were received from residents. Various opinions were submitted, ranging from local inconveniences to major and minor issues. Opinions that could not be raised due to time constraints were conveyed through the heads of neighborhood community centers after the dialogue sessions ended.

The main suggestions from residents included ▲utilization plans for vacant houses in the area ▲improvements to village bus routes and schedules ▲requests for active support for redevelopment and reconstruction ▲construction of new community center buildings and improvement of cultural lecture environments ▲upgrading Suyu-dong Mukja Alley to a commercial area ▲improvements to traffic environments such as parking and stopping regulations.

The district plans to immediately resolve simple matters and handle issues requiring review through the responsible departments.

Also, from the 1st to the 8th, in celebration of Chuseok, the mayor visited 16 traditional markets in the area to meet with residents and merchants. The mayor said, “The district office will provide generous support so that people visiting traditional markets can shop with trust and peace of mind.”

The mayor plans to explore market revitalization measures by reflecting residents’ opinions heard while exchanging kind words with merchants.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “I will actively carry out administration to ensure that the valuable opinions given by residents are reflected in district affairs as much as possible,” adding, “I will not miss even the smallest voice or precious opinion from residents that will lead to changes in district administration.”
