Goseong-gun Rises as the Festival Ground of Korean Ssireum Wrestling

Agreement Signed for Hosting the '2023 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival' and '2024 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament'

Goseong County, Gyeongnam Province, and the Korea Ssireum Association have signed an agreement to hold the "2023 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival" and the "2024 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Competition" in Goseong County.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will host the ‘2023 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival’ and the ‘2024 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament.’

Goseong-gun and the Korea Ssireum Association signed an agreement at the county office on the 12th, the last day of the ‘2022 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament,’ to hold the ‘2023 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival’ and the ‘2024 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament’ in Goseong-gun.

At the signing ceremony, Baek Chan-moon, president of the Goseong-gun Sports Council, and Lee Young-bong, president of the Goseong-gun Ssireum Association, who played major roles in attracting the tournaments, attended to celebrate the agreement together.

Lee Sang-geun, the county governor, said, “It is a great honor for our nation’s cultural heritage to hold major ssireum tournaments consecutively in Goseong-gun,” and added, “Let us work together for the development of Korean ssireum.”

Goseong-gun has established itself as the city of ssireum in Korea by successfully hosting the ‘50th Chairman’s National Jangsa Ssireum Tournament’ in 2020, the ‘51st Chairman’s National Jangsa Ssireum Tournament’ in 2021, the ‘Withus Pharmaceutical 2021 Folk Ssireum Goseong Jangsa Ssireum Tournament,’ the ‘35th National City and Province Jangsa Ssireum Tournament,’ and the ‘2022 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament,’ and by attracting the ‘2023 Cheonhajangsa Ssireum Festival’ and the ‘2024 Chuseok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament.’
