[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 8th that Incheon International Airport won the Best Green Cargo Airport Award at the ‘2022 Asia Cargo & Logistics Awards’ hosted by Asia Cargo News.
Asia Cargo News is a leading logistics media outlet based in Hong Kong representing Asia. Every year, it selects and awards the best companies in the logistics sector through votes from industry stakeholders targeting airports, ports, airlines, and shipping companies.
Incheon Airport has handled 3.33 million tons of air cargo annually last year, ranking second worldwide in international cargo handling, through continuous efforts to strengthen air logistics competitiveness such as attracting leading domestic and international logistics companies and steady investment in logistics infrastructure development.
Based on these achievements, it is solidifying its position as a Northeast Asia air logistics hub. In the Green Cargo Airport category of this award, Incheon Airport won the Best Green Cargo Airport Award for the second consecutive year, competing fiercely with Frankfurt Airport, Miami Airport, and Shanghai Pudong Airport.
The corporation analyzed that its high evaluation was due to actively promoting the transition to an eco-friendly airport by setting a challenging goal to supply 100% of Incheon Airport’s electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2040 after joining the global RE100 initiative in February, the first Asian airport to do so.
Additionally, the corporation is leading the carbon-neutral era in various fields by reducing waste through the Zero Waste Airport declaration and establishing the largest hydrogen vehicle charging station in Korea.
Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, “We thank the air logistics stakeholders who have worked hard to help Incheon Airport grow as a Northeast Asia logistics hub,” and added, “As air demand gradually recovers from the COVID-19 downturn, the corporation will spare no investment and support for the stable growth of air cargo as a reliable partner to cargo airlines and logistics companies.”
