[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) held the ‘8th Term Elected Mayor Pledge Project Report Meeting’ on the afternoon of the 7th, presenting the blueprint for Jungnang for the next four years.


At this report meeting, the implementation plans for the 8th term elected mayor pledge projects were established and reviewed, and the promotion schedule was shared. Time was also spent identifying potential issues that may arise during project implementation and discussing improvement measures.


The district selected the 8th term elected mayor pledge projects reflecting the wishes and requests of 400,000 Jungnang residents as follows. The seven major performance goals are ▲Hopeful Future Educational City Jungnang ▲Vibrant Economic Jungnang ▲Urban Development to Foster Growth Engines ▲Prompt and Certain Residential Environment Improvement ▲Cultural Jungnang Enjoyed by All ▲Warm Welfare Jungnang Together ▲Communication and Participation for Collaborative Governance Jungnang. A total of 125 pledge projects will be promoted, including 30 key tasks and 95 detailed implementation tasks.


The pledge selection process involved the ‘Happy Jungnang Vision Committee,’ composed of 29 local residents and field experts, who collaboratively drafted the projects to ensure they resonate from the residents’ perspective.


Major pledge projects for the 8th term include the construction of the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center and Astronomy Science Museum, establishment of a fashion sewing industry cluster, relocation of SH headquarters to Sinnae-dong, redevelopment projects for low-rise residential areas, construction of the Myeonmok Retention Basin Cultural and Sports Complex Center, and the building of a multipurpose complex office building.


The district plans to hold the Jungnang Vision Roundtable Meeting in the future to gather opinions from residents of all walks of life regarding the pledges. The Jungnang Vision Roundtable Meeting is a time when residents can directly participate in the policy decision-making process.


After a comprehensive review, the pledge projects will be finalized on October 8.


Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “If the past four years were a period of diligently sowing seeds for Jungnang’s development, the next four years will be a time to work harder on the ground to make flowers bloom and bear fruit. We will do our best to faithfully implement the pledged projects to create a happier and newer Jungnang and to foster pride among Jungnang residents.”

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) finalized an additional supplementary budget of 60.3 billion KRW, focused on COVID-19 response, livelihood recovery, regional economic revitalization, and disaster safety, after review by the district council on the 7th.


This supplementary budget prioritizes livelihood stabilization, regional economic recovery, and resident safety to comfort residents affected by the resurgence of COVID-19, record-breaking heavy rains, and high inflation.


First, 9.3 billion KRW was allocated to support living expenses related to COVID-19, and 500 million KRW was set aside as a nurturing fund to alleviate financial difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises.


In particular, a total of 6 billion KRW will be invested to revitalize the local economy, including 900 million KRW for additional issuance of Zero Pay and mobile gift certificates, and 700 million KRW for traditional market support and facility improvement projects.


To strengthen urban safety, 8.33 billion KRW was allocated for precise safety inspections of public facilities, repairs of sewage and river facilities, and dredging of sewers, accelerating the creation of a safe local environment.


Additionally, 3 billion KRW was allocated for urban development and local environment projects such as the construction of the Mangwoo History and Culture Park parking lot and waste importation, and 2.3 billion KRW was reflected in education, culture, and community sports sectors, including operation of the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center and establishment of a living culture center, ensuring a pleasant living environment and resident convenience.


Resident welfare is also carefully addressed. A total of 16.1 billion KRW was allocated for welfare areas such as support for activity assistance payments for the disabled and operation support for daycare centers and senior centers.


Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “We have concentrated the budget on these areas to stabilize the lives of residents deeply troubled by COVID-19 and high inflation and to ensure rapid regional economic recovery. I also express my gratitude to the district council for their efforts to finalize the budget. We will thoroughly prepare the necessary projects and spare no effort to make sure residents can feel the effects.”
