[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed former lawmaker Jeon Hee-kyung as the new Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, Political Secretary 1, on the 7th.
Jeon, the former Political Secretary 1, served as Policy Director of the Barun Society Citizens' Coalition and Secretary General of the Free Economy Institute. She entered the National Assembly in the 20th general election in 2016 as a proportional representative of the then Saenuri Party.
During the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye, Jeon held the position of floor deputy leader and later served as spokesperson while the party name changed from Saenuri Party to Liberty Korea Party and then to United Future Party. Last year, she served as Chief Secretary to Kim Ki-hyun, the floor leader of the People Power Party.
Jeon is known as a "conservative warrior" for advocating liberalism and market principles and delivering strong remarks against the Moon Jae-in administration.
