[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Fire Agency announced on the morning of the 6th that as Typhoon 'Hinnamnor' approaches northward, causing heavy rain in the Gyeongbuk region, it is guiding and evacuating about 2,200 local residents due to the flooding of Chilseongcheon in Pohang City.
Earlier, the National Fire Agency raised the Central Emergency Rescue Control Group to the highest level, Stage 3, the previous day, and reinforced dispatch capabilities to strengthen on-site response in flood-prone and dangerous areas. The agency dispatched additional situation managers to six cities and provinces along the typhoon's expected path (Busan, Ulsan, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, Changwon, Jeju) as well as Daegu and Gyeongbuk, maintaining real-time communication with the field and the Central Emergency Rescue Control Group (National Fire Agency 119 Comprehensive Situation Room) to perform tasks such as emergency contact.
Furthermore, at 2 a.m. on the 6th, a disaster alert message for pre-evacuation was sent to residents in the low-lying village area of Jenae-ri, Daesong-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang City, Gyeongbuk, due to the flooding of Chilseongcheon. Accordingly, the National Fire Agency is safely evacuating 1,176 households and 2,239 residents of Jenae-ri village to five shelters including the administrative welfare center, churches, and welfare halls.
Meanwhile, around the same time, a vehicle was submerged in the underpass beneath the railroad bridge in Yugum-ri, Gangdong-myeon, Gyeongju City, trapping a driver in his 50s; however, firefighters dispatched to the scene safely rescued the driver.
Lee Heung-gyo, Commissioner of the National Fire Agency, emphasized that "preemptive activities in risk-prone areas are of utmost importance," and stated that "on-site operations will prioritize saving lives." He urged local residents to "pay close attention to weather conditions and adhere to safety rules such as avoiding access to dangerous areas."
