[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 5th, Seong Il-jong, the Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, predicted regarding the emergency party meeting held over the issue of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, being summoned by the prosecution, "Judging by the fact that they are trying to frame it as political retaliation, it is highly likely that he will not appear."
In an interview with CBS Radio on the same day, Chairman Seong pointed out, "What about those who have been investigated, such as basic council members, metropolitan council members, mayors, county heads, and members of the National Assembly, for violations of the Public Official Election Act?" and added, "Shouldn't he set a better example himself?"
When asked about cases that ended with a written investigation, he said, "It is up to the prosecution to judge the seriousness of the matter," and added, "He should go and face it more openly."
He continued, "He is being investigated for election law violations, so why associate it with Mrs. Kim Keon-hee, who was a presidential candidate? It's laughable," criticizing. He sarcastically remarked, "In the case of Mrs. Kim Keon-hee, wasn't she thoroughly investigated by their own pro-Moon prosecution? Have you ever seen stock price manipulation going on for 10 years? The Democratic Party's DNA has the competence of a drowning ghost operation," implying that Lee's election law violation charges and Mrs. Kim's trial are unrelated.
Regarding discussions about the so-called 'double special prosecution' for Lee Jae-myung and Kim Keon-hee, he flatly stated, "That's an impossible story." He said, "They should only face their own issues. Why should there be a special prosecution? They've been thoroughly investigated for years, so what grounds are there for calling for a special prosecution? It's an impossible story."
