[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Due to the spread of COVID-19, six central districts in Shenzhen, China, have been locked down.


From midnight on the 3rd to midnight on the 4th, for two days, six central areas including Futian District will be managed under lockdown, according to a report by Yonhap News citing Shenzhen's quarantine authorities. Accordingly, residents in these districts are prohibited from going outside their apartment complexes. All residents must also undergo polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.


All businesses, except essential facilities providing public services such as tap water, electricity, and fuel, have switched to remote work. All commercial establishments except those selling daily necessities have closed. Public transportation such as city buses and subways operating in these areas has also stopped. Industrial facilities are operating under a closed-loop system.


Earlier, Shenzhen city had closed Huaqiangbei, China's largest electronics market, starting from the 29th of last month. The initial closure period was until the 1st, but it was extended by three days. Previously, in March, the city was fully locked down for a week.


In Shenzhen, about 300 new COVID-19 cases have been reported since the 28th of last month, including 87 cases the day before. Earlier, Chengdu in Sichuan Province was fully locked down on the 1st, and Dalian in Liaoning Province locked down its central districts starting from the 30th of last month. In China, about 1,500 to 1,800 new cases are reported daily this month.
