1.76 Billion Invested, 173-Space Jukdo Market Public Parking Lot with Excellent Accessibility Completed
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 2nd, Pohang City in Gyeongbuk held a completion ceremony for the public parking lot at Jukdo Market located in the Jukdo-dong area.
About 150 people attended the completion ceremony, including Mayor Kangdeok Lee of Pohang, Baek In-gyu, Chairman of the Pohang City Council, Park Yong-seon, Vice Chairman of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council, Lee Chil-gu, Chairman of the Provincial Council Operations Committee, representatives of the merchants' association, and local residents, celebrating the completion of the Jukdo Market public parking lot.
In response to the resurgence of COVID-19, after thorough personal quarantine measures, the event proceeded with a project progress report, presentation of merit and appreciation plaques, greetings and congratulatory speeches from guests, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. After the completion ceremony, attendees spent time communicating with residents and merchants while touring the market through shopping at Jukdo Market.
Jukdo Market has about 1,493 public and private parking spaces, but the existing parking capacity has not met the parking demand of visitors, and the need to expand parking lots has been continuously raised.
Accordingly, Pohang City was selected in 2018 for the Parking Environment Improvement Project by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, investing a total project cost of 17.6 billion KRW (10.3 billion KRW national funds, 6.8 billion KRW city funds). Construction began in January last year, and in August this year, the public parking lot with a total floor area of 4,471.26㎡ and a two-floor, three-level structure (173 spaces) was completed.
The newly established Jukdo Market public parking lot is equipped with modern facilities such as ▲voice guidance signboards and guiding lights ▲rapid charging electric parking spaces ▲11 bus-only parking spaces ▲a passenger waiting area with complete heating and cooling facilities.
Also, since it is located adjacent to Jukdo Fish Market, it has high market accessibility and is expected to provide parking convenience comparable to large supermarkets for visitors.
Mayor Kangdeok Lee said in his commemorative speech, “Both merchants and consumers are going through difficult times due to prolonged COVID-19 and adverse factors such as the Ukraine war. Pohang City will continue to focus on supporting the recovery of traditional markets and small business owners’ management and stabilizing food prices through active support.” He added, “I would like to once again thank the merchants and local residents who cooperated in the completion of the parking lot, and I hope Jukdo Market will become the nation’s best traditional market with self-sustainability and competitiveness.”
