This program was prepared by the Sports Health Rehabilitation Department of Yeungnam College of Science and Technology and the Health Promotion Division of Daegu Nam-gu Public Health Center to improve the quality of life through health promotion and increase vitality in life through social interaction for frail elderly people.
The education includes ▲ joint stretching and theme-based muscle strengthening exercise education ▲ health education and counseling by the assigned nurse ▲ dedicated health management such as prevention of elderly depression ▲ guidance and education on the use of health supplies such as TheraBand, patches, and anti-inflammatory drugs ▲ elderly health counseling and support of nutritional supplement soy milk. The program will be conducted every Thursday until October for about 20 frail elderly people aged 60 or older living alone in the local community.
Previously, in July last year, an education course was operated to train bilingual instructors for marriage immigrant women, and in April this year, an agreement was signed with Daegu City for the career and academic advancement of out-of-school youth.
Also, in May, various events supporting community service such as operating a professional baking experience program for grandparent-grandchild families with Daegu Nam-gu Family Center, providing equal educational opportunities for marriage immigrant women, out-of-school youth, and grandparent-grandchild families have been actively led.
Lee Jae-yong, President of Yeungnam College of Science and Technology, said, “I hope that the customized exercise guidance class for the elderly will help strengthen the health of frail elderly people in the region as well as improve their quality of life,” and added, “We will take the lead in establishing a university culture that works together with the local community through various educational support programs for local residents.”
