[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] Amid a series of simultaneous mass shootings in the United States, cases of children bringing guns to school during the back-to-school season are increasing. Upon receiving reports of such emergencies, schools immediately imposed movement restrictions on the children involved, and on-site police confiscated the pistols.

According to local media including CNN on the 1st, on the morning of the 31st, a four-year-old boy brought a loaded pistol to South Texas Elementary School in Houston, Texas.

The pistol in question belonged to the child's parents, and the police arrested the father on charges of weapon neglect and child neglect. It is not known why the child brought the gun to school.

A similar incident occurred on the 29th in Arizona. At an elementary school in the Cochise area, a seven-year-old child brought a gun and a magazine filled with bullets in their backpack to school.

The police, who responded to the report, secured the firearm and arrested the child's parents for investigation. According to the investigation, the child brought both guns from home to school, and the rest were found in the school office.

In the United States, a tragic mass shooting occurred in May at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, resulting in 21 deaths, including 19 children, and 18 injuries. The perpetrator was 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, who was killed after a confrontation with the Border Patrol counterterrorism team.

Following the incident, President Joe Biden criticized the frequent gun lobby in the U.S., saying, "It is wrong that an 18-year-old can enter a gun store and purchase two automatic rifles," and added, "I am sick and tired of these incidents. It is time to take action."

Approximately 400 million guns are in circulation in the United States, a number exceeding the entire U.S. population.
