Recruitment of Participants for Gwangju Nam-gu 'Architecture + Humanities Meeting' Program

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is recruiting participants for a program themed on the meeting of architecture and humanities starting mid-month to provide residents in the district with opportunities to enjoy humanities on various topics, centered around libraries.


According to Nam-gu on the 2nd, recruitment for participants in the humanities program titled "Architecture, Building Life" has been underway on a first-come, first-served basis since the 1st.


This program was selected for the "2022 Humanities on the Road" public contest project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Library Association, and consists of 10 detailed programs including 8 humanities lectures, 1 exploration, and 1 experiential activity.


The number of participants is 30 per each detailed program, and residents wishing to participate can submit an application form through the Nam-gu Integrated Library website or by phone to the library.


The "Architecture, Building Life" program will run for one month from the 20th of this month to the 20th of next month, with professors Kim Dong-ha from Gwangju University and Lee Hyo-won from Chonnam National University delivering various stories related to architecture.


In particular, participants will encounter topics such as the changes in architecture from ancient to medieval times, the value architecture imparts to our lives, cases of urban regeneration utilizing industrial heritage and landmarks, the Gwangju Poly tour, and examples of modern architecture through the merits and reflections on functionalist architecture after modernization.


Additionally, there will be in-depth discussions on the meaning of housing through overseas architects' residential cases, the reality of apartment-centered residential culture, the direction Gwangju should take, and topics on housing design and material selection for oneself.


Furthermore, on the last day of the program, participants will experience making small gardens using various succulent plants.


A Nam-gu official stated, "We will provide residents with humanities programs linked with high-quality lectures and explorations to offer opportunities to reflect on the value of life along with spiritual enrichment."
