Over 6,000 Victims... Over 100 Already Reported to Police
Promised Up to 35% Returns to Attract Cash
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A beautiful Thai YouTuber is accused of defrauding followers and others of $55 million (approximately 74.5 billion KRW). The YouTuber reportedly committed this crime by promoting high-yield foreign exchange investment lectures through her Instagram account, leveraging her beauty.
According to foreign media including NDTV on the 2nd, Thai police have issued an arrest warrant for the country's YouTuber Nathamon Khongchak. Nathamon, who operates under the stage name Nutty, is a YouTuber with about 850,000 followers and gained popularity by posting videos of herself dancing.
Later, Nathamon promoted foreign exchange investment lectures on her Instagram account while flaunting the profits she claimed to have earned through investments. According to foreign media, Nathamon reportedly collected cash from followers by offering up to a 35% return on investment.
The number of victims affected by Nathamon is estimated to be over 6,000, with about 100 of them reporting her to the police.
Currently, Nathamon has suspended all social media activities. This has led to speculation that she might have fled abroad. In May, Nathamon revealed on her Instagram account that she was in debt of 1 billion baht (approximately 36.6 billion KRW).
However, Thai police stated that after checking Nathamon's immigration records, the possibility of her leaving the country appears low.
