'Sold-out' Wonsoju Resells Out Again in 2 Minutes... Introducing 'Wonsoju Classic' Too

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] 'Wonsoju,' which resumed online sales, has once again sold out.


According to One Spirits on the 2nd, Wonsoju resumed sales at 11 a.m. on weekdays as usual starting the day before. The prepared quantity of 2,000 bottles of the 22-degree product and 200 gift sets sold out within 2 minutes.


One Spirits had previously suspended the operation of its online mall until delivery was completed after an online mall system error caused over 60,000 bottles?more than 30 times the standard quantity?to be over-ordered.


After the suspension of online sales, One Spirits also launched 'Wonsoju Spirit,' a successor product to the 22-degree Wonsoju. Wonsoju Spirit was sold offline through GS convenience stores and also experienced a shortage. The existing Wonsoju, produced by vacuum distillation, takes about four weeks to manufacture, including the aging process in earthenware after distillation, which requires considerable time. Wonsoju Spirit omits this process, allowing for relatively smoother supply.


One Spirits expanded its product lineup by unveiling the new product 'Wonsoju Classic' the day before. Wonsoju Classic is made using Toto-mi, a clean rice from Gangwon Province, nuruk, and yeast extracted from nuruk. It applies the traditional atmospheric distillation method. Wonsoju Classic is planned to sell 30,000 bottles monthly. Starting this month, 1,400 bottles will be sold daily on weekdays from 2 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis through the online mall. On the last Sunday of every month, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 2,000 bottles will be sold by lottery to consumers without prior purchase history of Wonsoju Classic. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. on the same day.


Park Jae-beom, CEO of One Spirits, said, "Going forward, One Spirits plans to introduce traditional liquors created through various methods to promote the charm of Korean traditional liquors as a representative of Korea," adding, "This Wonsoju Classic is the first product to use domestically developed yeast and offers rich aroma and deep flavor through atmospheric distillation."
