[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu) announced on the 1st that it signed a business agreement with Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Hyung-joon) to cooperate for the successful hosting of the 2030 World Expo Busan bid and the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.

The main contents of the agreement include ▲ cooperation in domestic and international promotion and event hosting for the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo and the 2030 World Expo Busan bid ▲ policy cooperation regarding the designation and development of Nakdonggang National Garden ▲ creation of a Busan participation garden within the garden expo site and cooperation in ticket purchase and sales ▲ mutual cooperation in policies to revitalize ecotourism and garden culture, aiming for win-win development through ecological and economic collaboration.

Under this agreement, Busan Metropolitan City will create the 2030 Busan World Expo Garden within the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo site to serve as a promotional venue for the Busan bid, and mutually cooperate in purchasing garden expo tickets and domestic and international promotion for the expo hosting.

Suncheon City, which holds Korea’s first national garden, will actively cooperate in policies for the designation of the Busan Samnak Ecological Park as the third national garden and in the revitalization of ecological and garden culture.

In response, Noh Kwan-gyu, Mayor of Suncheon City, said, “Busan has been an ecologically similar city to ours since the past, with projects such as the creation of Eulsukdo Ecological Park and the construction of the Nakdonggang Estuary Eco Center, and now the connection continues with the designation of a national garden,” adding, “Through this agreement, with the upcoming hosting and bidding of major events such as the World Expo and the International Garden Expo, we expect not only ecological and economic cooperation but also long-term foundations for urban development and the harmony between Yeongnam and Honam regions.”

Meanwhile, the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo, where the entire city becomes a garden, is scheduled to be held for seven months from April 1 to October 31 next year at Suncheonman National Garden, Suncheonman Wetland, and the downtown area, and the 2030 Busan World Expo is awaiting the final decision on the hosting city in November next year.
