Gwangju Nam-gu to Pay Closer Attention to 'Vulnerable Groups and Daily Life Inconveniences' During Chuseok Holiday

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is focusing on implementing 39 tasks across 11 sectors, including strengthening care support, to ensure vulnerable residents in the district have a comfortable Chuseok holiday.

On the 1st, Nam-gu announced, "To ensure that vulnerable groups and local residents have a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday and to provide convenience to visitors returning to their hometowns, a comprehensive resident life plan will be implemented until the 12th."

First, Nam-gu plans to strengthen care support for the elderly living alone and people with severe disabilities to create a warm holiday atmosphere without welfare blind spots.

In particular, in cooperation with local social welfare facilities such as the Nam-gu Senior Welfare Center, meal delivery services and caregivers will be provided to 3,962 elderly people living alone or at risk of missing meals, and visits and phone calls will be made to check on their well-being.

For 230 severely disabled residents in the district, the district office, dong administrative welfare centers, and the dong welfare community council will establish an emergency contact network to provide supplies and various services, and activity assistants will check the safety status of these households.

Additionally, meals will be provided to children at risk of missing meals during the holiday period, and consolation funds will be given to residents living in single-parent families and women's facilities.

Along with this, to prevent various disasters and safety accidents, a comprehensive situation room will operate 24 hours a day, and emergency duty will be carried out for step-by-step responses according to weather conditions.

Furthermore, to ensure prompt medical treatment for emergency patients in rural areas during the holiday, Hwajang Clinic (on the 9th) and Guso Clinic (on the 11th) will be operated, and cooperation with 337 emergency and on-call medical institutions will be maintained to facilitate smooth emergency medical care.

In addition, designated suppliers for city gas, LP gas, and petroleum products will ensure normal energy supply, and special duty will be carried out to maintain regular household waste collection during the holiday period except Saturdays.

For the convenience of returning visitors, crackdowns will be conducted on congested areas, illegal acts such as refusal of rides and unfair fares will be monitored, and supply and price trends of holiday seasonal goods will be regularly checked to stabilize prices and revitalize traditional markets.

A Nam-gu official said, "We will do our best to implement the comprehensive resident life plan so that everyone can have a bountiful and happy Chuseok holiday."
