[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Zinus disclosed an explanation on the 30th regarding reports that a class action lawsuit had been filed in the United States.
Zinus stated, "The lawsuit currently underway in Illinois, USA, related to fiberglass is not recognized as a 'class action' lawsuit," adding, "For a lawsuit to proceed as a so-called 'class action,' there must be a court ruling recognizing it as such, but no such judgment has been made by any U.S. court, and currently only unilateral claims from the opposing lawyers exist."
They continued, "The company plans to continue to strongly respond according to the law and procedures with local specialized attorneys against these plaintiffs' baseless class action requests, as it has done so far."
Furthermore, "Regarding the Illinois lawsuit, we held an arbitration meeting at the request of the opposing lawyers who recruited plaintiffs through various advertisements, but the company refused arbitration due to the opposing lawyers' unreasonable demands without basis," and added, "The recent filing of a complaint in a California court is merely because the Illinois court dismissed many plaintiffs from the Illinois lawsuit due to jurisdictional reasons, and the opposing lawyers filed a similar complaint in the California court."
Zinus also added, "Fiberglass made of continuous fibers is applied only to products for the U.S. market to meet the U.S. government's fire retardant regulation (CFR 1633), and it is the most commonly used material in the U.S. mattress industry, as well as being judged by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission as a material that is not harmful to the human body."
