Police Track Down Mr. A for Producing and Distributing Child Sexual Exploitation Materials
Questions Arise Over Videos Allegedly Circulated on Ilbe
Ilbe Users Deny Any Knowledge: "We Have No Idea"
[Asia Economy, reporter Kim Juri] Following the horrific sexual violence cases of the "Nth Room" and "Doctor's Room," a report has emerged exposing Mr. A for producing and distributing sexual exploitation materials involving minors. The site where the video was viewed has been identified as Ilbe, but Ilbe members are claiming to have no knowledge of the video. Some users are insisting that the site should post an official notice stating that Ilbe is not related to the video.
According to a KBS report on August 29, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Crime Investigation Unit is currently tracking down the perpetrator, Mr. A, who is suspected of violating the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth against Sexual Offenses (production and distribution of sexual exploitation materials), among other charges.
Mr. A reportedly approached victims through social networking services (SNS), threatened to distribute their photos and personal information, and thereby coerced them into producing sexual exploitation materials. The materials obtained through these methods were then distributed via the online messenger Telegram. According to the report, the bodies of the child victims had the words "A Master" inscribed on them.
KBS reported that the sexual exploitation videos were viewed over 40,000 times on the far-right website "Ilgan Best" (Ilbe).
However, Ilbe users themselves are expressing unfamiliarity with the incident. Users are claiming that sexual exploitation materials were never distributed on the site, posting comments such as, "Did such materials ever appear on Ilbe?", "Who is Mr. A anyway?", and "Why are we being blamed?" Some users are demanding that the site post an official notice clarifying that the reported facts are untrue, and are even criticizing the media for spreading unverified information.
Meanwhile, those who received and further distributed the sexual exploitation materials are also being investigated.
