President Yoon Visits Guro-gu Family Center

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Seok-yeol announced on the 29th that support for child-rearing expenses for low-income single-parent families and adolescent parents will be expanded, and customized support for multicultural families facing difficulties due to language or academic maladjustment will also be increased.

On the morning of the 29th, President Yoon met with various families, including multicultural and single-parent families, at a family center located in Guro-gu, Seoul. He stated, "Despite difficult financial conditions, we will provide thorough and robust support to vulnerable and crisis families, and strive to strengthen universal family services so that children can grow up healthily regardless of economic conditions or family environments."

President Yoon also toured family support sites at the family center, including the 'Gongdong Yuk-a Nanumteo' (Community Childcare Sharing Center) and the alternative education facility ‘Umteum School’.

Opened in 2006, the Guro-gu Family Center provides services such as initial settlement support for multicultural families, counseling, education, and care at various settlement stages, serving more than 40,000 users annually.

The presidential office explained that President Yoon’s visit was arranged to listen to difficulties and encourage field workers at support facilities for marginalized and vulnerable families such as multicultural and single-parent families.

President Yoon also expressed gratitude for the hard work of field workers supporting diverse families to overcome difficulties and live stably in our society, and urged them to continue paying close attention to marginalized families.

Furthermore, President Yoon listened attentively to the vivid voices of family center users regarding their experiences with the services, and said that based on various opinions and suggestions, family services will be developed through consultations with related ministries and local governments.

He also emphasized that by actively utilizing local networks such as community centers and family centers, early detection of families in crisis will be promoted, and welfare blind spots will be eliminated through organic support linkages among related institutions.
