[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong ·photo) announced that it has established a comprehensive plan to ensure residents have a safe and comfortable holiday during Chuseok, the traditional Korean holiday, and will operate it from September 7 to 13.
The district has prepared measures in five major areas: ▲ quarantine and disaster management ▲ strengthening traffic safety ▲ improving living convenience ▲ stabilizing holiday prices ▲ supporting marginalized neighbors. A situation room will be set up at the district office's comprehensive situation room and in each sector's task force office to promptly respond to various civil complaints and emergencies.
First, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the Chuseok holiday and to respond immediately to emergencies, an infectious disease task force will be formed at the Jung-gu Public Health Center, operating a 24-hour emergency quarantine system.
The health center's screening clinic and the temporary screening clinic at Seoul Station will operate normally during the Chuseok holiday. The health center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (break time from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.), and the Seoul Station temporary screening clinic will operate from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. (break time from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
In addition, compliance with quarantine rules will be checked at multi-use facilities such as indoor sports facilities, 3-dense facilities including printing and sewing companies, traditional markets, and food service establishments. Guidance on mask-wearing and hygiene management within workplaces will continue.
To proactively respond to disasters such as wind and flood damage, accidents, and fires that may occur during the holiday, the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will operate a 24-hour emergency duty system. Pre-safety inspections will also be conducted on flood-vulnerable facilities, gas supply and usage facilities, and construction sites under maintenance projects.
Traffic congestion is expected around stations due to homecoming and return trips and ancestral rites processions. Therefore, illegal parking and stopping around stations, bus terminals, department stores, markets, as well as taxi ride refusals and solicitation around Seoul Station will be intensively cracked down on.
To minimize medical service gaps, an emergency medical situation room will be set up at the Jung-gu Public Health Center, and a medical guidance team will be organized to provide information on hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies operating normally during the holiday.
Waste collection will be suspended for three days from September 9 to 11, and garbage disposal will be allowed from 7 p.m. on the 12th. Accumulated garbage during the holiday will be collected simultaneously starting the evening of the 12th. A separate cleaning situation room will operate from September 9 to 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., to handle cleaning complaints during the holiday.
The district will deliver lunch boxes to about 800 vulnerable elderly residents during the holiday and check on their well-being through face-to-face and phone contacts.
Meanwhile, sharing relays for marginalized neighbors will continue in each neighborhood. Each community center is preparing various Chuseok sharing events, such as delivering food packages including Samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), Songpyeon (rice cakes), rice, and gifts to low-income families.
District Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, "We will make every effort in each sector to ensure residents have a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday."
Seodaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong-heon) will hold an online event called ‘Together Yet Apart Hangawi’ for single-person households using Zoom for two hours from 7 p.m. on September 6, ahead of Chuseok.
Participants will visit the Seodaemun-gu Family Center a day before the event to receive holiday meal kits (ready-to-cook sets).
In the first part of the event, ‘Sizzling During the Holiday,’ participants will cook assorted pancakes and japchae in real-time while sharing stories about the holiday.
The second part, ‘Smiling During the Holiday,’ will feature a quiz competition for single-person households. The district will send prizes to the winners by delivery.
The event is limited to 15 participants, with priority given to single-person household residents living in Seodaemun-gu. For more details, contact the Seodaemun-gu Family Center or check the Seoul Single-Person Household Portal.
Seodaemun-gu District Mayor Lee Seong-heon said, “I hope this ‘Together Yet Apart Hangawi’ event will allow single-person household residents to share neighborly affection in the festive atmosphere.”
