[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Choi Jung-woo, Chairman of POSCO Group, attended the group's annual event, the 'POSCO Forum,' and urged the active discovery of new growth opportunities despite global economic uncertainties.

At the opening of the '2022 POSCO Forum' held on the 30th at the POSCO Human Resources Creation Center in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, Chairman Choi said, "Global economic uncertainties such as geopolitical conflicts, supply chain crises, stagflation concerns, and the ongoing pandemic are intensifying more than ever," but added, "Efforts to create a sustainable future must continue."

He emphasized, "We must anticipate the changing industrial landscape and future competitive environment and proactively respond to discover new growth opportunities," adding, "Through this, we should achieve POSCO Group's growth vision and actively create real value."

Held annually since 2019, the POSCO Forum is a gathering where all executives of the group companies diagnose domestic and international economic conditions and discuss the group's future growth strategies. This year, over three days until the 1st of next month, the forum discusses solutions for the group's sustainable growth and value creation post-pandemic under the theme 'Opening an Eco-friendly Future with Real Value Stories.' The attendance was expanded to broaden consensus on changes in the future management environment and POSCO Group's growth direction in response, and to collect diverse opinions. The event is held simultaneously online and offline.

In addition to POSCO Holdings' outside directors, corporate citizenship advisory committee members and representatives of partner companies also attended the forum in person. Especially, the first day's schedule, including economic outlook and corporate citizenship sessions, was broadcast live for all POSCO Group employees to enhance understanding of global economic and ESG trends.

The first day of the forum features a keynote speech by Barry Eichengreen, Professor of Economics at UC Berkeley, USA, on 'Reconstruction of the Global Economy after Big Steps and Corporate Challenges,' and a panel discussion on 'Geopolitics and Geoeconomics of the Global Economy,' predicting changes in global politics and economy and examining their impact and response strategies for the Korean economy and companies.

Following this, presentations and discussions on 'Real Value, a New Path for Corporate Citizenship' cover ways to enhance core business value through real value management and strategies for implementing a sustainable industrial ecosystem. A session titled 'Corporate Communication Strategies in the Era of ESG Management Expansion' analyzes and discusses the importance of ESG management and major companies' ESG strategies.

On the second day, linked to POSCO Group's major businesses, lectures and discussions will be held on ▲carbon neutrality and the changing role of materials in the steel sector ▲changes and prospects in the battery value chain dynamics in the secondary battery materials sector ▲and the turning points in realizing the hydrogen economy in the hydrogen and energy sector.

In the panel discussion on 'Carbon Neutrality and the Changing Role of Materials,' future challenges of the steel industry such as decarbonization innovation technologies and green steel development trends will be examined, along with the changing role of materials in the carbon-neutral era. The session on 'Changes and Prospects in the Battery Value Chain Dynamics' will explore the development direction of the industrial ecosystem following changes in automakers' battery strategies. The 'Turning Points in Realizing the Hydrogen Economy' session will review major countries' policy trends, technology development, and economic feasibility measures, diagnosing future growth potential.

On the final day of the forum, lectures will cover discovering and nurturing future growth businesses and securing talent for the company's sustainable growth, including ▲exploration and growth methods of future businesses ▲growth sectors and commercialization plans ▲changes in job perceptions and the talent acquisition war. The discussion on 'Exploration and Growth Methods of Future Businesses' will cover cases of major companies' exploration, selection, and nurturing methods for future businesses, while 'Growth Sectors and Commercialization Plans' will examine the growth potential of the food business, advanced materials sector, and robotics industry.

POSCO Group plans to utilize the discussions from this forum to concretize growth directions and solutions by business sector and apply them in establishing mid- to long-term strategies.
