[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] As of 9 PM on the 29th, more than 110,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.
According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, a total of 110,643 people tested positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
This number is 68,713 higher than the 41,930 cases reported during the same time frame the previous day. The number of diagnostic tests, which had decreased over the weekend, increased on the weekday, causing a sharp rise in confirmed cases. However, it is 31,771 fewer than the 142,414 cases reported a week ago on the 22nd.
Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 30th is expected to increase but remain in the 110,000 range.
The interim tally for the day showed 56,992 cases (51.5%) in the metropolitan area and 53,651 cases (48.5%) in non-metropolitan areas.
By region, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 30,161, Seoul 20,421, Gyeongnam 7,763, Incheon 6,410, Daegu 5,910, Gyeongbuk 4,941, Jeonnam 4,523, Chungnam 4,332, Busan 4,280, Jeonbuk 3,959, Daejeon 3,844, Chungbuk 3,782, Gangwon 3,192, Gwangju 2,940, Ulsan 2,104, Sejong 1,067, and Jeju 1,014.
From the 23rd to the 29th, the daily new confirmed cases were 152,012 → 139,310 → 113,359 → 101,140 → 95,604 → 85,295 → 43,142, averaging 104,009 cases per day.
