[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced that on the 29th, Vice Chairman Ahn Hyung-hwan of the KCC met with Pironglong Ramasuta, a standing commissioner of Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), to discuss various broadcasting and telecommunications policy issues, including joint production of broadcasting programs and policy directions for online video services (OTT).

At the meeting, Vice Chairman Ahn referred to the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the broadcasting content sector signed between the KCC and NBTC in December 2017, stating, "We hope to promptly conclude the 'Korea-Thailand Broadcasting Joint Production Agreement' that builds upon this, to activate content exchange and cooperation between the two countries."

Vice Chairman Ahn also introduced key ongoing policies such as the role and support measures for terrestrial broadcasting in the digital era, and legislative measures to encompass new online digital media.

NBTC Standing Commissioner Pironglong Ramasuta expressed, "We hope that broadcasting joint production between the two countries will be further activated through the 'Korea-Thailand Broadcasting Joint Production Agreement,'" and added, "We were deeply inspired by the KCC's efforts to reform media legislation to encompass legacy media such as terrestrial broadcasting, IPTV, and SO, as well as OTT, in response to the diversifying media ecosystem."

Meanwhile, the KCC plans to invite Thailand as the guest country for a special session at the '2022 International Conference on Joint Broadcasting Production' to be held on the 29th of next month, aiming to strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries.
