[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] It has been reported that a dog who saved its owner from a stroke was abused and then handed over to a dog meat restaurant. There are suspicions that the dog was abandoned at the dog meat restaurant due to the high cost of medical treatment.
On the 25th, the animal protection organization Beagle Rescue Network announced that a dog named 'Boksun' was brutally abused with a sharp weapon in the early hours of the previous day. Boksun was found in a horrific condition around 2 p.m. the previous day in front of a restaurant in Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do, with its nose cut off and skull fractured.
Boksun had been praised in the neighborhood as the 'dog who saved its owner' and a 'loyal dog.' According to Beagle Rescue Network, when the owner collapsed from a stroke in the past, Boksun barked loudly to alert others, allowing the owner to receive emergency treatment from 119. The organization stated, "According to neighbors, the name Boksun was given after the dog saved its owner," and expressed outrage, saying, "One cannot repay kindness with enmity."
The owner reportedly said that after visiting the animal hospital, Boksun died and was taken to the dog meat restaurant.
However, Beagle Rescue Network suspects that the owner may have taken the living Boksun to a slaughterhouse. The organization said, "The owner took the abused Boksun to the animal hospital but handed the dog over to the dog meat restaurant owner, citing the high cost of treatment."
Beagle Rescue Network stated, "We have secured sufficient evidence and circumstances proving that the living Boksun was handed over to the dog meat restaurant," and announced, "We will file a criminal complaint against Boksun's owner and the dog meat restaurant owner." The organization retrieved Boksun's body from the dog meat restaurant owner, cremated it, and held a funeral.
The police plan to book the suspect who abused the dog on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act as soon as they identify them.
