[Seoul District News] Gwangjin-gu to Receive In-Kind Donations Before and After Chuseok from August 29 to September 16 for Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will conduct the "Chuseok Food Sharing Campaign," which collects and distributes in-kind donations so that vulnerable neighbors who are easily marginalized can have a bountiful Chuseok, starting from the 29th.
This campaign was prepared as a way for any resident to easily participate in donation activities to provide practical help to low-income groups whose hardships have deepened due to rising prices, the resurgence of COVID-19, and unprecedented flood damage.
Previously, the Gwangjin Food Bank project allowed registered member companies and individuals to donate food and other in-kind items, but this food sharing campaign enables any resident to participate in Gwangjin Food Bank donation activities regardless of membership registration.
Donatable items include canned goods, canned beverages, ramen, rice, and other foods that can be stored for a long time. Donations of meat, frozen foods, and items nearing their expiration date are restricted. In addition to food, daily necessities such as clothing, tissue paper, and toothpaste can also be donated.
The donation period is from the 29th of this month to September 16th, around Chuseok, and in-kind donations can be made at three locations equipped with donation boxes: Gwangjin Food Bank Market, Jayang 3-dong Community Center, and Hwayang-dong Community Center. The collected items will be promptly delivered through the Gwangjin Food Bank Market to elderly living alone, disabled persons, multicultural families, and others in difficult circumstances within the region.
For more details, inquiries can be made through the Gwangjin-gu Office Welfare Policy Division or the Gwangjin Food Bank Market.
The Gwangjin Food Bank Market is located in Hwayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu. It opened on March 20, 2007, and currently serves about 600 residents monthly. Residents wishing to use the food bank can apply at their local community center and receive support after a review of eligibility criteria.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "Any resident can save neighbors in difficulty from isolation through donation and sharing," and added, "We will continue to build a dense social welfare network and actively discover and support various welfare projects to prevent tragedies among marginalized residents in the region and create a Gwangjin-gu where everyone can live well."
