Hyundai Movex and CMES Sign Memorandum of Understanding for 'Smart Logistics AI and Robot Solution Innovation'

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hyundai Movex announced on the 25th that it will embark on a joint project with AI and robotics startup Cimes to develop future-oriented smart logistics solutions and build an innovative automated logistics environment.

Cimes is an AI and robotics specialist company gaining significant attention in the industry recently, leading with its ‘Unstructured 3D Robot Control System’ based on 3D vision (three-dimensional image recognition) robot solutions.

On the same day, the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for ‘AI and Robotics Smart Logistics Solution Innovation’ at Hyundai Movex’s Cheongna R&D Center, agreeing to actively promote projects that combine their strengths as well as develop future technologies.

Through this collaboration, Hyundai Movex plans to further upgrade its AI and robotics capabilities in its core business area of smart logistics automation.

When Hyundai Movex’s top-tier domestic ‘Total Smart Logistics Solution’ is combined with Cimes’s AI and 3D vision-based ‘Random Object Depalletizer’ (a robotic arm that recognizes and moves unstructured boxes on pallets), revolutionary automation results are expected in logistics processes such as storage, sorting, and transportation. They also plan to focus on developing future-oriented smart logistics robot solutions by integrating their respective advanced technologies.

Based on Hyundai Movex’s excellent logistics automation solutions and Cimes’s 3D vision and AI robot control capabilities, they will actively pursue the development of high-tech logistics technologies including ▲automated loading and unloading robots ▲MFC (Micro-Fulfillment Center) solutions ▲AI picking robots.

Hyundai Movex is fully committed to advancing smart logistics technology. Since the opening of the Cheongna R&D Center in 2019, it has developed and commercialized dozens of core logistics technologies, registering 15 new logistics technology patents in the first half of this year alone, totaling 75 patents to date.

Hyundai Movex stated, “We will pursue future-oriented development cooperation that enables a ‘win-win’ with the advanced startup Cimes,” adding, “To advance smart logistics, we plan not only to strengthen our own R&D capabilities but also to actively expand external collaborations.”

Cimes said, “Combining Movex’s total smart logistics business capabilities with Cimes’s advanced AI and robotics control technology will create unprecedented innovative synergy,” and added, “We will strive to make this an opportunity for Cimes to contribute to the expansion of robotic automation in logistics beyond manufacturing.”
