The 2022 Yeongyang Starlight Firefly Festival will be held over two days, August 27 and 28, at the Yeongyang International Dark Sky Protection Park.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] The ‘Starlight Firefly Festival’ in Yeongyang, Gyeongbuk, will be held on the 27th and 28th at the Yeongyang Firefly Ecological Park.
Since the event in 2019, the 2020 and 2021 festivals were not held due to the impact of COVID-19, so the Yeongyang Firefly Festival, returning to citizens after three years, takes place at the end of August, the boundary between summer and autumn. The composition is as unique as the timing.
▲ 2022 Yeongyang Firefly Festival: Enjoying the early autumn atmosphere ahead of others by following fireflies and starlight
Above all, what illuminates this year’s Yeongyang Starlight Firefly Festival are the fireflies and starlight. This period is when the late fireflies appear, and thanks to the clean nature of Subi-myeon, Yeongyang-gun, designated as Asia’s first International Dark Sky Park, along with the clear night sky and low light pollution, the starlight and late summer scenery can only be experienced here.
If you participate in the Milky Way exploration program held from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM, you can fully feel its mystery.
The area around Yeongyang-gun’s ‘International Dark Sky Park,’ where the event is held, is well known as a region with minimal pollution and light pollution, allowing the Milky Way to be observed with the naked eye when the weather is good.
For late summer vacationers accompanied by children, play facilities with air bounces and swimming pools are installed, and food trucks and caf? trucks are arranged to provide various food options and resting spaces.
After the lively daytime programs, an emotional night arrives at the venue with the stars in the sky and fireflies. Jazz vocalist Yang Ji meets citizens with a four-member jazz performance.
