Following the April exterior reveal, interior design debuts at the US 'Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance'
Implementing the beauty of space with restrained design language based on reductive design principles
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Genesis unveiled the interior design for the first time by exhibiting the electric vehicle concept ‘X Speedium Coupe’ at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance held on the 21st (local time) at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California, USA.
Now in its 71st year, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an event that concludes the Monterey Car Week, an automotive festival held every August in California, USA. Classic cars, concept cars, and new models are exhibited.
Luke Donckerwolke, Vice President and CCO of Genesis, said, "Encouraged by the positive public feedback on the previously revealed exterior design of the X Speedium Coupe, we are pleased to present the interior design for the first time to the globally discerning audience of the Concours d’Elegance. The interior, reflecting Genesis’s emphasis on the ‘beauty of empty space,’ will suit various luxury lifestyles while showcasing the dynamic appeal of a GT."
Genesis implemented the ‘beauty of empty space’ in the interior of the X Speedium Coupe based on a driver-centric design. This follows Genesis’s principle of ‘reductionist design,’ which means ‘less is more,’ using a restrained design language.
The most distinctive feature of the X Speedium Coupe’s interior design is the cockpit that envelops the driver with all controls and displays. A curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display is placed in the driver-centric cockpit. The graphic-based user interface of the cluster features a motor output gauge reinterpreted in a newtro style from the RPM gauge. Additionally, the vertical display located to the right of the driver’s seat offers a touch UI design that enables operation of various functions such as vehicle start and multimedia playback.
Genesis applied the ‘Pine Grove Green’ color to the driver’s seat, harmonizing with the exterior’s ‘Inje Green’ color. For the passenger seat, the color ‘Monterey Gold,’ inspired by the coastal scenery of Northern California, was applied.
Inside the trunk of the X Speedium Coupe, an X-shaped strap utilizing the G-Matrix pattern, first introduced in the Genesis Mint concept, adds stability to the cargo space and enhances the vehicle’s dynamic experience. Environmentally friendly leather was also used throughout the vehicle’s interior.
The leather upholstery of the X Speedium Coupe is mainly composed of two types: ▲ vegetable-tanned leather processed with plant-derived ingredients such as citrus fruits or mimosa instead of chromium, and ▲ grain leather with excellent breathability that uses less water and chemicals compared to conventional leather during processing. Additionally, leftover leather from seat production was recycled and reborn as woven pattern leather decorations on the steering wheel. Furthermore, threads made from recycled plastic materials were used in the finishing process to enhance the leather’s durability and water resistance.
