[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is addressing parking difficulties by utilizing vacant private parking lots.

The district is promoting a project to open private parking lots with available spaces to residents by signing agreements with private parking lot owners. The aim is to overcome the limitations of parking supply and alleviate local parking shortages.

The project targets all facilities with five or more parking spaces that can be opened for at least two years, including companies, apartments, religious facilities, and schools.

In particular, starting this year, small-scale private parking lots with three to five spaces and apartment parking lots with five or more spaces that can be opened for paid hourly use during daytime are also eligible to participate in the project.

Private entities participating in the project will receive incentives such as up to 25 million KRW for security system operation and parking facility improvements, or the installation of "Thankful Sharing Parking Lot" signs. The district plans to prioritize support for residential areas with parking difficulties and facilities with secured open spaces and user demand.

Parking lot users can check information on open parking lots through the "Seoul Parking Information" app and website.

Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, "This project is being promoted to solve the chronic problem of parking difficulties through cooperation with the private sector," adding, "We will make every effort to secure parking spaces to reduce inconvenience not only for residents but also for all visitors to the area."

Since 2018 until last year, the district signed agreements with a total of 31 locations, including Seoil University and Yangwon District, securing 1,067 parking spaces. This year, it plans to expand parking spaces through an agreement with Mukdong 2030 Youth Housing.
