[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The startup club 'PTBro,' composed of students from the Department of Physical Therapy at Gyeongnam Information University, was selected as one of the final 40 teams in the '2022 Startup-Centered University Preliminary Startup Package' hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development.
The club was chosen as one of the top 40 teams out of 1,270 teams participating in this year's Startup-Centered University Preliminary Startup Package and will receive 45 million KRW in government support.
The 'Pain Cleaner,' submitted by students from the Department of Physical Therapy at Gyeongnam Information University, is a device that alleviates headaches and pain caused by temporomandibular joint disorders using conductive silicone rubber electrodes.
The device also won the grand prize at the 2nd National Dental Industry Idea Competition hosted by Busan City in December last year.
Along with being selected for the support project, the PTBro team has filed a patent and plans to establish a corporate entity in October. Having received a love call from a U.S. angel investor, they also plan to pursue FDA approval in the U.S. market in the second half of next year.
Kim Tae-hoon, a third-year student in the Department of Physical Therapy and leader of the PTBro team, said, "Majoring in physical therapy at Gyeongnam Information University, I learned the 'real thing' and reached a turning point in my life. I will continue to receive a lot of support from the school for various goals such as startup and entry into the U.S. market."
Kim Tae-hoon is especially notable for his unique background of 'U-turn' admission to the Department of Physical Therapy at Gyeongnam Information University while enrolled in a four-year university.
