[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Hyundai Department Store announced on the 19th that it has signed a business agreement with the Korea Gallery Association to revitalize the domestic art market.
Through this agreement, both parties plan to promote various activities to revitalize the domestic art market, including ▲ successful hosting of KIAF (Korea International Art Fair) Seoul ▲ raising awareness of domestic galleries and artists ▲ holding joint marketing events.
Hyundai Department Store will officially sponsor the successful hosting of KIAF Seoul, the largest domestic art market organized by the Korea Gallery Association. Celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, KIAF is Korea's first art fair and attracted nearly 90,000 visitors last year despite the impact of COVID-19, gaining great popularity. This year, it will be held at COEX from the 3rd to the 6th of next month and will be co-hosted with Frieze, one of the world's top three art fairs, raising high expectations among art enthusiasts.
A booth of the government-registered first-class art museum operated by Hyundai Department Store, the Hyundai Children's Book Museum, will be installed in Exhibition Hall B. At the booth, visitors can appreciate the Thinking Monkey sculpture, a representative work of Moca Garden designed by Jaime Hayon, and experience a fantastic space filled with golden balls. Customers who pay with a Hyundai Department Store card on-site can receive a 20% discount on the ticket price.
To raise awareness of domestic galleries and artists, various exhibitions will be held at 16 stores nationwide, including the Apgujeong Main Store. Notably, the Chungcheong branch will hold the Delivery Happiness exhibition, which provides experiences of happiness by displaying works by domestic artists such as An Sohyun and Koke along with plants from the 28th of this month to the 25th of next month. The Ulsan branch will hold a solo exhibition of domestic painter Lee Wan-doo from the 27th of this month to the 23rd of next month. Until the 4th of next month, The Hyundai Art Week will be held at 16 stores nationwide, offering two KIAF tickets for purchases over 1 million KRW.
Jung Ji-young, Vice President and Head of Sales Division at Hyundai Department Store, said, "Through the business agreement with the Korea Gallery Association, we plan to continuously present various cultural and artistic contents that can only be experienced at Hyundai Department Store," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to provide diverse values and experiences that art holds in the future."
