Participants of the '2022 Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage Utilization Project - Seoul Seonjamdan Story Masil,' held in the first half of 2022, are visiting the Seongbuk Seonjam Museum to explore the clothing culture of our ancestors.

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is operating the ‘2022 Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage Utilization Project - Seoul Seonjamdanji Story Visit’ and the ‘2022 Old House & Jonggatjip Utilization Project - Seongbuk-dong Simwoojang Old House Literary Experience Center’ by utilizing the stories of Seoul Seonjamdanji (Historic Site) and Manhae Han Yong-un Simwoojang (Historic Site) located in Seongbuk-dong.

Sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration, hosted by Seoul City and Seongbuk-gu, and organized by the Korea Heritage Center.

Seongbuk-gu is called the ‘Museum Without Roof’ as it is home to numerous cultural artists representing the independence movement and modern and contemporary Korea, with rich cultural heritage and historic sites such as Seoul Seonjamdanji, Manhae Han Yong-un Simwoojang, and Suyeonsanbang.

The 2022 Seoul Seonjamdanji Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage program, ‘Seonjamdanji Story Visit,’ is a cultural heritage utilization project that creates historical meaning and value inherent in cultural heritage through Seoul Seonjamdanji and Seongbuk Seonjam Museum, allowing local residents and the general public to enjoy cultural heritage.

It consists of three detailed programs: ‘Silk Road,’ ‘Culture Road,’ and ‘Seonjam Festival Path to Feel Abundance.’ Following the first half program held from April to June, the second half starts with Silk Road on August 27. The detailed schedule is Silk Road on August 27 and October 29; Seonjam Festival Path to Feel Abundance on September 17, October 8, October 22, and November 26, totaling six sessions.

The 2022 Manhae Han Yong-un Simwoojang Old House Jonggatjip program, ‘Seongbuk-dong Simwoojang Old House Literary Experience Center,’ is designed as an opportunity to newly discover the value and meaning of old residences and modern houses, and to enjoy traditional culture easily and enjoyably. It is a cultural heritage utilization project created through traditional culture experiences, education, performances, and hands-on activities, enabling local residents and the general public to enjoy cultural heritage more easily.

It consists of four detailed programs: Modern Old House Living Experience, Old House Person Exhibition, Seongbuk-dong Old House Cultural Exploration, and Old House Humanities Experience. In the first half, two sessions of Modern Old House Living Experience and two sessions of Seongbuk-dong Old House Cultural Exploration were held. The second half schedule includes two sessions of Modern Old House Living Experience (October 1, November 5), two sessions of Old House Person Exhibition (September 3, September 30), one session of Seongbuk-dong Old House Cultural Exploration (September 24), and three sessions of Old House Humanities Experience (November 11?13), totaling eight sessions.

Face-to-face programs are conducted under strict quarantine rules, and non-face-to-face programs are operated so that participants can safely participate from their respective locations. Seongbuk-gu, which possesses abundant cultural heritage, plans to actively utilize and promote Seonjamdanji and Manhae Han Yong-un Simwoojang, and expand cultural enjoyment services to all citizens interested in cultural heritage and the activation of local cultural heritage in Seongbuk-gu.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Through the 2022 Seongbuk-gu Cultural Heritage Utilization Programs, we will deepen the enjoyment of Seongbuk-gu’s cultural resources, called the Museum Without Roof, and expand opportunities to promote the value of Seongbuk.”
