[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Silla University has finalized the selection of technology development projects through a public contest targeting companies to foster the companion animal industry and has begun focused support.
Silla University is promoting the Companion Animal Industry Specialized University Innovation Research Complex Project (I-URP), supported by city funds, to nurture companion animal industry companies in the Busan area and strengthen their competitiveness.
The Silla University I-URP Project Group held a public contest for technology development research projects targeting companies and research institutes related to the companion animal industry in the Busan area from July 29 to August 8, utilizing the university's infrastructure and technology for industry-academia cooperation technology development.
On the 16th, after evaluation of research and development plans and face-to-face presentations by a panel of experts, a total of 12 projects with innovation and growth potential were finally selected: 3 in the pet tech field, 3 in the pet food field, 1 in the pet fashion field, and 5 in the pet living field.
The project group plans to support each selected project with approximately 10 million KRW, aiming for 20 prototype developments, 12 product registrations, paper presentations, and patent applications, along with technology transfer, industrialization, quality improvement, and strengthening R&D capabilities.
This project selection is expected to serve as a catalyst for the development of the companion animal industry in the Busan area by increasing sales and creating jobs for participating companies.
Project Director Bae Il-kwon said, “In addition to supporting technology development projects, we are planning various initiatives to foster the companion animal industry, including private accelerator programs, specialized training for employees and students, and the establishment of spaces for company residency and startups.”
Director Bae also stated, “We will make various efforts to establish infrastructure for revitalizing the companion animal industry and lay the foundation for related business growth.”
