[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 19th that it will provide an additional 4 billion KRW in emergency restoration funds to the central regions including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam, which suffered significant damage due to heavy rains.

The Ministry initially provided 6.7 billion KRW in emergency support to local governments for rapid disaster recovery. As the damage expanded due to continuous heavy rains, additional support was provided: 1.3 billion KRW to Chungnam, 1 billion KRW each to Seoul and Gyeonggi, 500 million KRW to Gangwon, and 200 million KRW to Chungbuk.

The special grants for emergency restoration are used for urgent measures such as temporary repair of damaged roads, covering washed-out slopes with tarps, removing debris from damaged facilities, preventing further damage, implementing safety measures, and supporting disaster victims until full restoration of the facilities is completed.

Minister Lee Sang-min stated, “We will support local governments’ swift recovery and assistance to disaster victims so that residents affected by this heavy rain can return to their daily lives as soon as possible. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will also make every effort to ensure that emergency restoration and relief for disaster victims proceed smoothly before the upcoming Chuseok holiday.”
