[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will start the 'Bucheon Eol~su (Water)' environmental campaign on the 19th, providing free drinking water to citizens who carry personal cups or tumblers.
At stores displaying the 'Bucheon Eol~su' sticker, any citizen can receive free drinking water in their tumbler or personal cup. The campaign includes 60 franchise cafes such as Ediya and Twosome Place, as well as 38 individual restaurants and cafes.
The city also distributed stickers to 192 safe restaurants, including the Sang3-dong Sangsaeng Street Merchants Association, which expressed participation intentions at the association level, and 477 real estate offices.
Stickers were also placed on the entrances of 36 locations such as administrative welfare centers, resident support centers, and on-site civil complaint offices, making it convenient for residents in each district to use the service.
Additionally, Lotte Department Store Jungdong Branch is participating in the campaign by providing drinking water at the VIP Bar on the 11th floor, and Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch is doing so through the Cafe H facility on the 9th floor.
At the entrance of participating stores, there is a 'Bucheon Eol~su' certification sticker shaped like a water droplet featuring Bucheon City's character 'Bucheon Hansseop' drinking water. These stores can also be found on Bucheon City's electronic tourism map.
Mayor Jo Yong-ik stated, "Through this campaign, we hope to protect citizens' safety during heatwaves and cold seasons, promote the habit of carrying tumblers, and encourage eco-friendly practices. Furthermore, we expect a synergy effect where businesses sharing a glass of water are promoted as local coexisting businesses, and citizens continue to visit these kind stores."
