Korea Railroad Corporation announced that as of the ticket reservation period starting on the 16th for Chuseok, 799,000 out of 1.65 million available seats were sold, resulting in an overall reservation rate of 48.4%.
The reservation rates by major lines are as follows: Gyeongbu Line 49.0%, Gyeongjeon Line 51.6%, Honam Line 54.4%, Jeolla Line 61.3%, Gangneung Line 42.9%, and Jungang Line 57.7%.
The day with the highest number of outbound travelers is September 9, with a southbound reservation rate of 83.4% (Gyeongbu Line 86.0%, Honam Line 92.8%). The highest return reservation rate was on September 12 for northbound trains at 80.7% (Gyeongbu Line 84.6%, Honam Line 88.2%).
Reserved tickets must be paid for by midnight on the 21st. Tickets not paid within the period will be automatically canceled and reassigned to those on the waiting list.
In particular, customers who reserved tickets by phone on the 16th (senior citizens and persons with disabilities) must visit the station ticket window with their ID (resident registration card or disability registration card) by the 21st to make on-site payment and receive the physical ticket.
Remaining seats can be purchased as usual starting from 3 PM on the 18th via the mobile app 'KORAIL Talk,' the KORAIL website, or at station ticket windows and automatic ticket vending machines nationwide.
◆ KTX for 4 people at around 90,000 won... Special discount products for Chuseok return trips = Additionally, a ‘Chuseok KTX Special Discount’ will be offered to allow more affordable use of KTX trains with available seats during the Chuseok holiday period. The sales period is from 10 AM on the 30th of this month until the 7th of next month.
During the holiday period, excluding Chuseok day (September 10), on September 8-9 and 11-12, some available seats on KTX trains, including return trips to stations, can be used at a 40% or 60% discounted fare.
A product called ‘Four people for 99,000 won’ allows four people to use KTX as a set for 99,000 won. Especially, on the Gangneung Line and Jungang Line KTX, a set of four costs 49,000 won. However, the special discount does not apply to the lowest fare sections.
The special discount products are online-only offers for members and can be purchased on the KORAIL website and smartphone app, with a maximum of 4 tickets per person per purchase (one set for the 4-person bundle), and up to 8 tickets in two purchases (two sets for the 4-person bundle).
Senior customers or others unfamiliar with internet and smartphone use can have someone else purchase tickets and use the ‘transfer’ function.
