Ulsan City Hall.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Ulsan City held a ‘Donation Ceremony for the Operation of Ulsan Region Doctor-Car’ at 2 p.m. on the 18th in the reception room on the 7th floor of the city hall main building.
The event was attended by Kim Du-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, Lee Young-baek, Vice President of S-Oil, and Jeong Yung-gi, Director of Ulsan University Hospital.
The ‘Doctor-Car’ is an emergency vehicle nicknamed the emergency room on the road. Unlike a general ambulance that only carries nurses or paramedics, it carries surgeons or emergency medicine specialists and nurses who directly treat patients inside the vehicle while transporting them.
The Ulsan Region Doctor-Car was pilot-operated at Ulsan University Hospital from October 2016 to December 2018 but was temporarily suspended due to lack of operating funds. Later, in May 2019, the operation of the Doctor-Car resumed with sponsorship from S-Oil.
S-Oil sponsors 100 million KRW annually, and Ulsan City supports 20 million KRW to assist the operation of the Ulsan Region Doctor-Car at Ulsan University Hospital.
It is known that 158 emergency patients have saved their lives by using the Doctor-Car over the past six years.
A case demonstrating the importance of the Doctor-Car’s role occurred in 2018 when a patient who had a forklift accident during work was transported to the hospital trauma center while a specialist inside the Doctor-Car pressed the abdominal aorta by inserting a hand into the abdomen to control bleeding and maintain blood pressure.
Kim Du-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, said, “I hope that the safety net for emergency medical care will continue to be established through public-private cooperation,” and added, “I am grateful to S-Oil and Ulsan University for cooperating to protect the precious lives of citizens.”
S-Oil has been carrying out various community contribution projects and supporting cultural and artistic activities, including donating 10 billion KRW to the restoration project of Taehwalu Pavilion, contributing 12 billion KRW to the Ulsan Welfare Foundation for supporting welfare projects in the Ulsan area, and sponsoring the Doctor-Car.
