[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] On the 18th, Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), carried out executive personnel appointments and appointed five deputy governors. For the first time at the FSS, an executive born in the 1970s was appointed.

Sang-won Park, Chief of Staff, was appointed as Deputy Governor for Planning and Management, and Byung-chil Kim, Director General of the Supervisory General Bureau, was appointed as Deputy Governor for Strategic Supervision. New deputy governors were also appointed for Insurance (Su-hwan Cha, Director General of Human Resources Development Office), Disclosure and Investigation (Jung-tae Kim, Director General of Planning and Coordination Bureau), and Consumer Rights Protection (Beom-jun Kim, Director General of Life Insurance Inspection Bureau).

Mi-young Kim, Deputy Governor for Planning and Management, was reassigned to handle consumer damage prevention, and Young-joo Kim, Deputy Governor for Consumer Rights Protection, was reassigned to oversee banking.

There had been many expectations inside and outside the FSS that an executive born in the 1970s would emerge, as Governor Lee Bok-hyun was born in 1972 and is considered relatively young in the financial sector. The newly appointed Deputy Governors Byung-chil Kim and Beom-jun Kim were born in 1969, and Deputy Governor Sang-won Park was born in 1970.

The FSS stated that this personnel appointment prioritized expertise and work capability above all. The FSS explained, “Regardless of seniority, we actively selected competent individuals to more efficiently address current challenges and to invigorate the organization.”
