[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Jo Hae-jin, vice chairman of the People Power Party Innovation Committee, criticized Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo's remark about 'dissolving the Innovation Committee,' saying "basic common sense is wrong."
On the 18th, Jo said on his Facebook, "Assemblyman Ahn said, 'It is not right for the party to have two leadership bodies, the Emergency Response Committee and the Innovation Committee. It is right to go with a single Emergency Response Committee system.' However, the Innovation Committee is not the party leadership but just one of the party organizations under the Emergency Response Committee, and it is merely a party committee formed by the Supreme Council based on the party constitution and regulations," he stated.
Jo continued, "Even when the Supreme Council was in place, no one said that the party had two leadership bodies, the Supreme Council and the Innovation Committee," and questioned, "The party leadership only changed from the Supreme Council to the Emergency Response Committee, so are you saying that the Innovation Committee was elevated to party leadership in the meantime?"
Assemblyman Ahn had advocated for dissolving the Innovation Committee the day before but explained to reporters on the day, "If different voices come out from the Emergency Response Committee and the Innovation Committee, it causes more confusion in the party, so the idea is to unify them into one."
In response, Jo said, "The proposals made by the Innovation Committee themselves have no legal effect and must go through the Emergency Response Committee's resolution to become the party's official position," adding, "Since the final decision-making body for innovation proposals is the Emergency Response Committee, there cannot be different voices between them, and if there are differences depending on the issue, the position of the Emergency Response Committee, the supreme leadership, must take precedence."
Jo also pointed out, "The current crisis situation, where the party's formal leadership formed through the party convention has collapsed and the Emergency Response Committee has been launched, eloquently shows how desperately our party needs change and reform. Therefore, the Emergency Response Committee has declared that it will accelerate party innovation work and support the Innovation Committee responsible for that work," and criticized, "In such a situation, it is very surprising and disappointing that Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo, one of the party leaders, has advocated for dissolving the Innovation Committee for whatever reason, intention, or logic."
Assemblyman Choi Jae-hyung, who serves as the chairman of the Innovation Committee, also emphasized to Assemblyman Ahn, "Do not shake the Innovation Committee."
