[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Lotte Tour Development announced on the 18th that it held a meeting with top domestic designers at the Han Collection Gwanghwamun branch on the 16th to utilize the reopened Gwanghwamun Square after 1 year and 9 months as an opportunity to revitalize K-fashion.
The meeting was attended by three top domestic designers, including Song Ja-in (Jane Song), who served as costume director at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Yoon Chun-ho, who designed IU's costumes at this year's Cannes International Film Festival, and Lee Cheong-cheong (Rai), who participated in Paris Fashion Week, along with representatives from K-fashion brands.
Lotte Tour Development stated, "Along with the existing Gyeongbokgung Palace, the newly opened Blue House and the newly renovated Gwanghwamun Square area are expected to become tourist attractions where history and culture harmonize," adding, "At this meeting, domestic designers agreed that the Han Collection Gwanghwamun branch, the only K-fashion specialty mall in Korea, should serve as a promotional stage to showcase K-fashion."
Designer Lee Cheong-cheong said, "Domestic designers are mostly limited to online activities, so there is an urgent need for popup store spaces that can showcase the unique charm of K-fashion," adding, "The Han Collection Gwanghwamun branch is adjacent to tourist attractions such as Gwanghwamun Square, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Deoksugung Palace, making it a promising offline space to easily introduce K-fashion to the increased number of foreign tourists after the endemic (periodic outbreak of infectious diseases)."
Designer Song Ja-in (Jane Song) said, "Thanks to the global popularity of K-content such as BTS, Squid Game, and Parasite, interest from overseas consumers and buyers in K-fashion is growing," adding, "It would be effective to conduct customer participation promotions linked with K-pop at the Han Collection Gwanghwamun branch."
Lotte Tour Development plans to hold relay meetings every month until the end of the year and explore various ways to collaborate with brands in the Han Collection, including supporting outdoor advertising at Gwanghwamun intersection, sponsoring rooms at the Grand Hyatt Jeju, and launching collaborative products.
Han Collection is the largest K-fashion specialty shopping mall in Korea, first launched in December 2020 at the Jeju Dream Tower complex resort and the Seoul Gwanghwamun building. It operates as a curated shop with 14 categories including men's and women's contemporary, casual, and street styles, featuring over 200 K-fashion designers representing Korea.
