Daimler Truck Korea Launches Mercedes-Benz Actros L

Enhanced Safety and Convenience Features in the 5th Generation Actros

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Daimler Truck Korea announced on the 18th that it will newly launch the Mercedes-Benz Actros L, upgraded (Upgreat) with enhanced safety and convenience features in the 5th generation Actros lineup.

The newly launched Mercedes-Benz Actros L features the Actros L lettering, a symbol of innovation and premium quality, along with the cutting-edge innovative technologies introduced in the 5th generation Actros lineup. It also applies the L-package, which further upgrades safety technologies and convenience by reflecting the needs of domestic consumers.

The Actros L lineup in Korea consists of three models: the 530-horsepower 2653LS 6x2 GigaSpace, the 510-horsepower 2651LS 6x2 StreamSpace, and the 460-horsepower 2646LS 6x2 StreamSpace, with plans for future expansion. The L-package is applied to the GigaSpace cab and StreamSpace cab, which feature a fully flat floor and boast the largest interior space and livability among the Mercedes-Benz Actros 6x2 lineup. Detailed safety and convenience specifications vary by model.

The L-package includes innovative safety technologies such as integrated full LED headlamps, upgraded MirrorCam, and Active Drive Assist 2, a partial autonomous driving system capable of full braking, providing drivers with a safer and more effortless driving experience.

To ensure more stable driving and road visibility, the seat position of the Actros L has been lowered by 4cm compared to previous models. Additionally, the newly designed integrated full LED headlamps apply LEDs to the main lamps, optimizing light distribution and road surface illumination to enhance safety. The daytime running lights and turn signals are designed as integrated LEDs, creating a striking impression. Intelligent features such as auto high beam and cornering lamps, along with front fog lamps, automatically adjust brightness according to traffic and road conditions, providing optimal driving safety.

The 5th generation Actros was the first truck to replace external side mirrors with MirrorCam, improving safety and efficiency. The Mercedes-Benz Actros L features an upgraded MirrorCam that offers even greater safety and efficiency. Compared to previous models, the MirrorCam arms are approximately 10cm shorter on both the left and right sides, resulting in a more compact exterior and improved aerodynamic performance that reduces air resistance, thereby lowering fuel consumption by up to an additional 1.5% on combined roads (European standards). Durability has also been enhanced. An image processing software upgrade provides clearer image quality, reduces glare from sunlight, and offers superior visibility in dark environments.

The most important and noticeable new feature of the Actros L is the Active Drive Assist 2, a partial autonomous driving system capable of full braking, which is the first of its kind in the commercial vehicle industry. Active Drive Assist 2 actively assists the driver longitudinally and laterally under certain conditions. When necessary system conditions such as sufficient curves or clearly visible road markings are met, it automatically maintains distance from the preceding vehicle and enables automatic acceleration, deceleration, and steering.

Additionally, Active Drive Assist 2 includes an emergency stop assist function that can initiate an emergency stop if the driver does not control the steering wheel despite visual and auditory warnings, further enhancing trust in the safety of the partial autonomous driving system.

The L-package of the Actros L not only provides a more comfortable interior life by actively reflecting the needs of domestic consumers with enhanced convenience features but also strengthens eco-friendliness.

It offers two cab specifications: GigaSpace and StreamSpace, boasting a wide and comfortable interior space with a fully flat floor cab without an engine tunnel and an interior width of 2.5m, the maximum allowed by domestic regulations. The 530-horsepower 2653LS 6x2 GigaSpace model is equipped with a premium mattress. All Actros L models come standard with ventilated leather seats (domestically produced), providing a luxurious seating experience and comfortable driving throughout all four seasons. Furthermore, interior sound-absorbing and insulating materials have been innovatively reinforced to deliver superior interior soundproofing and insulation performance.
