Chuseok Gifts Carefully Selected by Shinsegae Korean Food Research Institute

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 17th that it will showcase traditional liquor and rice gift sets from 'Balhyo:Gokgan,' a brand directly planned by the company, in celebration of Chuseok.

Balhyo:Gokgan introduces products crafted by food artisans who have inherited traditional skills passed down through generations and have devoted their lives to researching ingredients grown on Korean soil, all curated by Shinsegae's strict food standards through the Shinsegae Korean Food Research Institute.

This time, they collaborated with traditional brewing distilleries to create over 10 types of ceremonial liquors essential for the Chuseok ancestral rites table, including Myeoncheon Dudgyeonju, Sinseonju, and Cheongmyeongju. Dudgyeonju is a yakju brewed with azalea flowers and glutinous rice, known for its excellent taste, aroma, and smooth finish. Sinseonju is also crafted by master brewer Park Jun-mi using 11 medicinal herbs along with rice and nuruk (fermentation starter).

There are also takju (unfiltered rice wine) and sparkling yakju that can be enjoyed with Korean cuisine. Kang Hak-mo's takju features a soft and thick body using the Samyangju technique. The sparkling yakju combines the clear Samyangju liquor with camellia flower scent and refreshing carbonation to stimulate the palate.

Rice, an indispensable item for the Chuseok ancestral rites table, is also prepared. Developed by chefs from the Shinsegae Korean Food Research Institute and rice sommeliers, this gift set is rich in flavor and nutrition, created through research on the characteristics of different rice varieties and cooking methods. The Balhyo:Gokgan Blending Rice 3-set includes Hyanggi Boksuk, known for its savory aroma and excellent taste; Gaeul Boksuk, noted for its glossiness and stickiness; and Health Boksuk, a blend of blood sugar-lowering rice and low-sugar brown rice.
