Temporary General Meeting of Sacheon Airshow Promotion Committee Held
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, is gearing up in earnest for the successful hosting of the ‘2022 Sacheon Airshow,’ held for the first time in three years due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
On the 17th, the city held a temporary general meeting of the Sacheon Airshow Promotion Committee in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of City Hall, where they reviewed and approved the ‘2022 Event Promotion Plan (draft)’ and ‘Budget Revision (draft).’
The 32 members of the Sacheon Airshow Promotion Committee attending this temporary general meeting were given detailed explanations about the event schedule decided at the regular general meeting in February, as well as the renaming of the Sacheon Airshow.
This year’s Sacheon Airshow will be jointly hosted by the Air Force, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Sacheon City, and Korea Aerospace Industries Co., Ltd., and is scheduled to take place over four days from October 20 to 23 at the Sacheon Airfield area.
Starting this year, the event’s name has been changed from ‘2022 Sacheon Airshow with the Air Force’ to ‘2022 Sacheon Airshow’ to prevent confusion and enhance the brand by using a unified name.
Mayor Park Dong-sik said, “Since this is the first event in three years after COVID-19, we are thoroughly preparing the event to comfort the exhausted citizens and create good memories.”
He added, “The establishment of the Aerospace Administration in Sacheon has been confirmed. Through the Sacheon Airshow, we must prove that Sacheon is truly the center of South Korea’s aerospace industry,” and urged, “Please prepare the event meticulously so that the public can feel its impact.”
Meanwhile, the ‘2022 Sacheon Airshow’ is themed around ‘Dreams,’ becoming a stage of dreams for some, a source of new dreams for others, and a ‘field of dreams’ where people can take leaps toward their aspirations.
This year, more than 120 diverse programs across 11 fields are prepared, transforming the event from a simple viewing and entertainment occasion into one that contributes to the development of the aerospace industry through seminars, industry promotional exhibitions, and more.
Major official events include the Air Force military band concert and opening ceremony, dazzling aerobatic performances by the Air Force’s special flight team Black Eagles and Australia’s Paul Bennet Airshow Team, as well as demonstration flights of domestically produced aircraft such as the KT-1 and T-50.
There will also be demonstration flights of the LAH (Light Armed Helicopter) developed and produced by Korea Aerospace Industries, the Korean fighter KF-21, the Air Force’s latest aircraft F-35A, and strategic assets like the E-737, with about ten new aircraft on ground display.
Various airshows including high-altitude parachute jumps by Air Force special forces, and free experience flights of Air Force (transport aircraft, helicopters) and civilian (university, light aircraft) planes unique to the Sacheon Airshow will continue this year as well.
Alongside diverse ground exhibitions of military, government, and civilian aircraft, the event will also host the ‘Air Force Aviation Weapon System Parts Exhibition,’ ‘Aero Mart Sacheon 2022,’ the ‘2022 Sacheon City Job Fair,’ and ‘Industry Promotional and Exhibition Halls’ to strengthen aerospace business and infrastructure.
