[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] The Gyeongbuk Office of Education announced on the 17th that 33 teams of the 'Teacher Dokdo Exploration Club,' selected through a public contest, are autonomously exploring Ulleungdo and Dokdo during the summer vacation period.
In this year's 'Teacher Dokdo Exploration Club' contest held in April, a total of 33 teams (132 members) were finally selected. A total of 72 teams applied for the project to explore Dokdo autonomously by team, reflecting the high interest of teachers.
The clubs are composed of 4 members per team, totaling 33 teams. The Gyeongbuk Office of Education distributes exploration funds to each team and supports autonomous exploration of Ulleungdo and Dokdo during the summer vacation.
The teams were formed autonomously beyond the boundaries of school levels and schools. Through this exploration, teachers are provided with a valuable opportunity to operate an interdisciplinary and distinctive Dokdo curriculum.
For the team leaders of the 33 finally selected teams, pre-discussions were held on the method of fund execution, precautions for Dokdo exploration, how to write the final report, and the production of Dokdo class content to make the exploration more meaningful.
After the exploration, each team writes an autonomous report, produces interdisciplinary lesson plans and various learning contents, which are uploaded to the Cyber Dokdo School website. The uploaded materials can be shared by anyone and serve to provide diverse teaching materials for schools.
Son Wonyong, a teacher from Heungmu Elementary School who participated in the August Dokdo exploration, said, “The moment I set foot on Dokdo, a site of historical distortion and territorial disputes, I felt a lump in my heart. Using the materials collected during this exploration, I will be able to conduct more vivid Dokdo classes with my students.”
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik said, “I hope that the field exploration opportunities for the Teacher Dokdo Exploration Club members, composed of elementary and secondary school teachers, will serve as a guide for Dokdo education for students, and we will further expand support for Dokdo education in the future.”
