[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Sandoll, a font company, announced on the 17th that its font platform Sandoll Cloud has become the first in the industry to surpass 1 million cumulative members.
Sandoll Cloud started in 2014 as Korea's first cloud-based font service and expanded its business in 2018 by launching an open font platform service, becoming the number one font platform in the domestic industry. The monthly active users (MAU) exceeded 1.7 million as of last month, and it currently supports over 24,000 fonts from 27 domestic and international brands and characters in 12 language groups.
This year, the user inflow speed of Sandoll Cloud is accelerating. After a full platform overhaul in March, Sandoll Cloud recorded 1 million MAU in May, and the inflow increased by 70% in just two months, surpassing 1.7 million MAU last month. Starting with this year's platform revamp, Sandoll Cloud has expanded services reflecting user demands, such as individual fonts and AI-based font image search technology. From next month, the service scope will be extended to include font services from individual designers.
Platform access via mobile has also increased significantly, with the cumulative downloads of the Sandoll Cloud mobile application exceeding 400,000 as of last month. In particular, with the official support of the OS font application feature on KakaoTalk iOS last month, the number of downloads of the Sandoll Cloud mobile app surged by about 300% compared to the previous month.
A Sandoll representative said, “Surpassing 1 million cumulative members signals that fonts have become an important element for creators and that we need to prepare for a market where the value of fonts will grow further.” He added, “We will continue to listen closely to creators' demands and lead new attempts and changes to provide an ecosystem where anyone can easily use the fonts they want and create optimal content.”
