[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] Kim Geumsuk's work "Gidalim" (English title The Waiting) has been named among the six nominees for the Best International Book category at the Harvey Awards in the United States. The work, which deals with the story of separated families during the Korean War, was published in September 2020.
Kim Geumsuk has created works focusing on modern history, such as "Jiseul," about the Jeju 4.3 Incident, and "A Day Spent with Grandfather," depicting victims of the atomic bomb in Korea. In 2020, she won the Best International Book category at the Harvey Awards for the comic "Pul," which portrays the lives of comfort women victims.
The Harvey Awards, named after American cartoonist and editor Harvey Kurtzman, were established in 1988 and are prestigious awards in the American comics industry.
The final winners will be announced at New York Comic Con, held from October 6 to 9.
