[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Jang Deok-hyun, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, met with Alfredo Pascual, the Philippine Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, to request support for the bid to host the '2030 Busan World Expo.' The Philippines serves as a production hub for Samsung Electro-Mechanics' key products such as MLCC (Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors).

According to Samsung Electro-Mechanics on the 17th, CEO Jang and Cho Sang-ho, Vice President in charge of Southeast Asia, met with Secretary Pascual in Manila, Philippines, on the 15th to seek support for hosting the Busan Expo. Samsung Group has been actively supporting the Expo bid overseas as part of the public-private joint '2030 Busan Expo Hosting Committee.' CEO Jang's request is part of these efforts.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics explained the major business activities and innovative technology cases of its Philippine production subsidiary. Discussions were held on exchanges with Philippine companies, industry-academia cooperation with Philippine universities, and Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 refers to optimizing all production processes by integrating ICT into manufacturing sites.

The Philippine production subsidiary was established in 1997 and has been a production hub for passive components such as MLCC, inductors, and chip resistors since 2000. Last year, it generated sales of 1.3939 trillion KRW. Samsung Electro-Mechanics operates a separate manufacturing technology academy at the Philippine subsidiary to provide production technology training for key products like MLCC. The 'A to Z Program' is run to discover talented youth and provide scholarships. Outstanding talents are hired by the Philippine subsidiary.

The Philippine government also recognized Samsung Electro-Mechanics' consistent corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. The Philippine subsidiary has received multiple awards from the Philippine government for excellence in export, labor-management relations, social contribution, and environmental management. Having won three awards in each category, it was inducted into the 'Hall of Fame' last year.
