[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is launching a contest for population policy ideas and slogans until the 23rd of next month to overcome the population cliff.
The contest theme is marriage, childbirth, childcare, and family love to create a happy Seongnam where all generations share and enjoy together.
The population policy idea category includes ▲measures to overcome low birthrate and aging society ▲ways to expand population inflow ▲improvements to population issues.
The slogan category includes ▲a city good for marriage and parenting ▲a happy family balancing work and home ▲a livable city with a future ▲commitment to responding to low birthrate and aging society, with about 20 characters.
Applicants can submit entries for both the idea and slogan categories simultaneously.
Those who wish to participate can refer to the Seongnam City website.
Seongnam City will reflect the selected ideas and slogans in population policies after consultation and coordination with relevant departments.
Meanwhile, according to Statistics Korea, the total fertility rate in South Korea was 0.81 in 2021, marking the lowest since birth records began in the 1970s. The total population is also projected to decrease from 51.84 million in 2020 to 37.66 million by 2070.
