Disaster Escape Number One! ...'Seodaemun Family Disaster Camp' Opens

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) will hold the "Disaster Escape Number One! Seodaemun Family Disaster Camp" on September 3rd from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the 6th-floor auditorium of the district office.

This event will be held under the theme "Normalized Disasters and Life After Disasters," and will include ▲ disaster recovery education within the community ▲ making disaster response kits for climate-vulnerable groups ▲ learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) ▲ experiencing emergency disaster rations and packing survival backpacks.

Participants must be families of two or more residing in Seodaemun-gu, and if children are included, they must be elementary school students or older.

Approximately 10 families will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and those interested can apply by referring to the announcements on the Seodaemun-gu website.

Participants will acquire knowledge about various disasters such as infectious diseases, floods, heavy snow, and wildfires, and enhance their response capabilities through hands-on activities.

Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "I hope this camp will strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience after disasters."

Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Choi Hogwon) announced that it will conduct the "Visiting Children's Traffic and Fire Safety Experience Education" until September to prevent safety accidents among children and improve their ability to respond independently in crisis situations.

Although the district conducted non-face-to-face safety education for the past two years to prevent COVID-19, reflecting last year's survey results that showed a desire to participate in experiential safety education once the COVID-19 situation eased, this year’s education will combine theory and hands-on classes.

The "Visiting Children's Traffic and Fire Safety Experience Education" is conducted by professional instructors from child safety education institutions who visit childcare centers directly and teach safety behavior guidelines in an easy-to-understand way tailored to children’s perspectives.

This education will be held from July 22 to September 30 at 38 daycare centers and kindergartens in the area, with three 50-minute sessions per institution, divided by age group (3 to 6 years old).

The curriculum includes ▲ crossing the crosswalk ▲ evacuation methods in case of fire ▲ how to use a fire extinguisher. The teaching method combines theoretical lessons on preventing traffic and fire accidents that can occur in daily life with experiential learning on a stage simulating real situations.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Urban Safety Division of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office.

A district official stated, "Safety education is very meaningful in improving the ability to respond when actual disasters or accidents occur," and added, "We will continue to expand various experience-centered safety education programs tailored to children’s perspectives."
